Zapsony is a small Hungarian spoken border village with approx 2000 inhabitants. Unemployment is quite high here. Many families have to live from a income below 100 euros a month. Foundation Oekroe supported so far the medication for three severely ill mothers each with a family with young children.

mother of 6 kids has diabetes
A foster parent family with 6 foster children were living in this home at Mukachevo. The foster parent wanted to emigrate to USA but didn’t get permission to take de 6 foster children with them. Nevertheless the foster parents emigrated to USA and left the children behind.
A retired military officer (already retired at the age of 38 years of age!) together with his wife and their three own children have taken over the care for the foster children. The house itself needed to be bought. Foundation Oekroe has contributed € 5000.
A delegation of Foundation Oekroe has visited the family house on the 7th of November 2010. The house looks perfectly. And what’s even more important, the 6 foster children has become really part of the family!

At Kizomys in the south of Ukraine near the Dnjepr river as well as the city of Gerson, there is a creche for about 50 children. Because floor space is rather limited within this facility the childern are put to sleep in what appear to be a couple of dressers (photo). After the childern have finished their nap the drawers could be shifted away in order to make space for a play ground for these pearls. Water comes from a well 54 meter deep well and was ingeneously "pumped up" through passive levering. There other sanitation was rather basic as well. With support from Oekroe the creche has been refurbished. And you could imagine how happy they are with there refurbished facility.

Weletin is a small village at the banks of the Dnjepr river near the Black Sea. The hospital/rehabilitation house (50 beds) in this village was closed down by the authorities as the hygienic circumstances were dreadful even for Ukainian standards. The water was for instance supplied by an old slurry tank....
Helping Eastern-Europe Foundation (see links) has created a well after which fresh water came from the tap. The sanitation has been refurbished at the account of the Oekroe Foundation (around € 7,500.-).
The refurbished hospital was reopened September 2006 and operates to everybodies satisfaction. The staff is very careful with their refurbished facility as visitors are supposed to leave their shoes at the entrance! This project has been visited by Oekroe (photo) in order to see the results with our own eyes. The work itself has been largely completed with local workers.
