The foundation

March the 30th, to be exact, Foundation Oekroe was born. Founded by initiator and the current chairman Jaap Mooij. Through his long years of hard work as well as growing love for Eastern Europe, the idea to do something with Dutch and Eastern European youngsters started to take shape. Due to his many visits to both Ukraine and Romania, he decided on the name "Oekroe", which is a concatenation of the first three characters of Ukraine respectively Romania ('Oekraïne' and 'Roemenië' in Dutch).

Besides founder and chairman Jaap de Mooij, six dedicated people are member of the board of the Oekroe foundation. Next to those board members, there are numerous volunteers who actively support Oekroe, both in The Netherlands as well as in Ukraine. Together all those volunteers provide for many radiant faces annually, all pearls in God's hand.

The objective of the Oekroe Foundation is to establish, promote and maintain contacts among Dutch youth and the youth of Eastern Europe. This objective is amongst others achieved by organizing summer camps, working holidays and similar. The most important aspect is telling and propagating the Gospel.

We want to reach our objective, by trying to create warm feelings amongst younger and older Dutch people for the Eastern European youth. Dutch camp participants are able to give signs of hope by meeting with Eastern European youth. Even if you do not join us to go to Eastern Europe yourself, you could help us and through us the people in Eastern Europe, with your prayers and if possible financially. The children who go to camp, have very different backgrounds. Oekroe treats Ukrainian, Hungarian and Gypsy children equally. This principle also applies for the Dutch participants. What binds us are the Bible and the love for children.
